Written in the Stars

Seeing as this is my first blog post, I thought it best to serve as an introduction to myself, and what better way is there to get to know someone than their birth chart?

By no means am I a professional astrologer. Everything I know comes from religiously reading my Elle daily horoscope, Café Astrology, Costar, and Astro Poets. Like any hobby, it just takes practice to learn.

What follows is a self-interpretation of my natal chart based on when I was born on November 30, 1997 at 8:20 a.m. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Sun in Sagittarius

The Sun corresponds to our outward-flow of energy. When people ask “what’s your sign?” what they are really asking about is your sun sign.

The primary trait of a Sag sun is optimism.

I like to think I go with the flow, and I’ve been known to greet people by saying “today is a wonderful day” at 6 a.m. and order a Rise-N-Shine bagel from Alpine at 10 p.m.

Moon in Sagittarius

The Moon represents our emotions.

Lunar Sagittarians value freedom and excitement. For me, this translates to restlessness. When I have trouble falling asleep, it’s usually because I’m thinking about the future.

Ascendant in Sagittarius

The Ascendant or Rising sign coincides with the mask we show the world.

Sagittarius risings are perceived as enthusiastic and up for anything.

I do love a good spontaneous adventure, but I’m also a big planner (like the color-coded calendar type).

Mercury in Sagittarius

Mercury indicates how we communicate.

Mercury in Sagittarius people have strong opinions, but express them with a charming sense of humor. Follow me on TikTok (@lilygavazov) to see for yourself.

Venus in Capricorn

Venus’s placement describes how we relate to others.

I’d like to point out this is the first non-Sag sign in my chart thus far. Being an oh-so-grounded Earth sign, Venus in Capricorn people are pragmatic, and can even come across as restrained.

Mars in Capricorn

Our Mars sign represents desires and drives.

Everything in my chart screams Sagittarius, except my Capricorn heart. These two signs are wildly different, which irks the controlling Cap in me. Mars in Capricorn people are goal-oriented. They like to be on top of things.

While the easy-going nature of my Sag sun draws me to spontaneity, my Mars in Capricorn can explain my tendency toward routine. For now, let’s just consider my existence an endearing dose of controlled chaos.

Jupiter in Aquarius

This sign indicates how we grow.

Jupiter in Aquarians are open-minded individuals.

Open-mindedness is one of the most important things to me. How can I expect to progress as a human being without accepting ideas different from my own?

Saturn in Aries

Saturn spends two or three years in the same sign, so its influence is more generalized than that of your sun or moon sign.

Saturn determines our self-discipline and where we limit ourselves out of fear.

Saturn in Aries people have a tendency toward self-righteous anger, which is a manifestation of their fear of inadequacy.

I have to be careful with this placement, especially paired with my Mars in Capricorn, because this combination causes me to struggle with letting go.

Uranus in Aquarius

Uranus spends roughly seven years in the same sign, so its presence is more obvious among specific age groups than it is in individuals.

In Aquarius, Uranus indicates originality. They get overly excited about obscure tasks that interest them. Astrology definitely isn’t one of those.

Neptune in Capricorn

Neptune’s placement tells us how we motivate ourselves and others.

Neptune Caps can be somewhat cynical in their pursuits, and this can account for the disillusioned millennial mindset.

Though the pragmatism of my Neptune placement contradicts with the optimism of my Sag sun, if caught on a bad day, I’ll for sure align myself with some shade throwing realness.

Pluto in Sagittarius

Pluto determines how we accumulate self-knowledge.

This one changes every 14 years, so it applies to most people I know.

The main characteristic of those with Pluto in Sagittarius is tolerance. Most people I know make an effort to listen to multiple perspectives before determining what they think.

Lilith in Virgo

Black Moon Lilith draws attention to our characteristics that might be repressed or buried.

Lilith in Virgos struggle with perfectionism.

I never really thought of myself as a perfectionist, but especially as I’m writing this post, I’m noticing how much I care about things being, what I consider, just right.

North Node in Virgo

The North Node point to where we can improve in our lives.

The North Node in Virgo indicates a propensity toward procrastination.

Albeit organized, there are definitely times I’ve written a 14-page paper from start to finish in two days. Okay, that was one time. Perfectionism and procrastination are another two diverging forces in my life I’m still learning to reconcile.

Hopefully you’ve learned a little more from this first post about either me or astrology. Thanks for reading!
